Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 hungry children that would be raised with them eventually. She learned early on how to conquer of the difficulties she faced by using her rich and vibrant imagination. Before learning how to read or write, Dolly Parton was creating her own music. The guitar that she first received was presented to her at the age of eight. She began singing in a Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. In the that same the year that Gold Band Records was a tiny independent record label. While she was popular in the local scene while she was at High School, she knew her ambitions were bigger. After graduating from high school in 1964 she moved immediately to Nashville. Her first charting hits on Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated TV show host in the late '60s, was looking for a singer for his show. Parton signed with RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. However, it wasn't until 1974 when she made the decision to quit Wagoner's program as the popularity of her solo albums including Joshua Coat, Many Colors and Jolene was outstripping their joint efforts. Parton, after the split of their relationship with Wagoner, wrote"I Will Never Love You and saw it climb to the top spot at No. The first time it made it to No. 1 was 1974.
